, Kiyomasa Kato and Masayuki Sanada, to prevent an outbreak of the new civil war.
Azumi is discovered as a little girl kneeling without visible emotion next to the body of her dead mother by Gessai and his entourage of young students. She is then raised by him in the martial skills of sword fighting and the art of assassination. Azumi and her classmates, now at young adult age, are constantly being told about a “mission” they must accomplish, though they have no idea what this mission is yet. Prior to setting out on their mission, their master orders his students to “pair up” with each other’s best friend and proceed to kill each other, thus out of ten students only five will remain to proceed with the mission: Azumi pairs with and is forced to kill Nachi. More questions and internal conflicts begin to arise amongst Azumi and her comrades as it seems their mission even prevents them from saving a village of mostly women and children from being massacred at the hands of a group of bandits, as they need to keep a low profile in order to achieve their primary mission.
The first leg in their mission, assassinating Nagamasa Asano, goes well. Upon hearing about Asano’s death, Kato tasks his general Kanbei Inoue with his safety. Kanbei assesses the threat with a convoy containing a body double of Kato, in which his company fails to keep the double alive. The group of young assassins is given leave to see a small traveling circus troupe, where Hyuga falls in love with Yae, one of the troupe’s actresses. After his assessment, Kanbei enlists help from three rogueish brothers who, eventually confuse Yae’s circus troupe for the assassins, slaughtering them all until Hyuga, Azumi, and Nagara arrive. By the time the three dispatch the rogues, only Yae is left alive. Kanbei then sends his monkey-like henchman Saru to make a deal with the insidious and narcissistic mercenary named Bijomaru Mogami, previously imprisoned and under constant guard. Kanbei promises Bijomaro that should he successfully kill the assassins, his past crimes will be forgotten. Bijomaru agrees and quickly gets to work hunting down the five assassins, with Saru as his guide. Bijomaru’s bloodlust, much to the chagrin of Saru, is such that he often kills allies in battle along with his enemy.
As Hyuga walks his beloved Yae back to the main road after saving her from the three brothers, he is confronted by Saru and Bijomaru, and a battle between the assassin and the mercenary ensues. During the battle, Bijomaru uses psychological warfare in addition to swordplay as he explains to a frightened Hyuga that his sword does not contain a hand-guard since he has never had to defend another’s blow. As Hyuga lays bleeding and defeated, Bijomaru forces Yae to watch him toy with the dying boy. Saru, uncomfortable with this lack of respect for another warrior, finishes Hyuga off as an act of mercy, and gives Yae leave to bury him. Azumi soon finds Yae by Hyuga’s body, and Yae manages to convince her that the violent lifestyle must be left behind. Together they begin a journey over the mountains and out of the valley to go and live in peace with Yae’s kin in Tangou. Yae socializes Azumi during the journey, dressing her in a kimono and adorning her with make-up, perfume and hair treatment. Just as they begin to get comfortable during their journey, a band of brigands finds them as they sleep, and attempts to gang rape the young women. Azumi, who has not slept beside her sword as her training normally dictated, is caught off guard, but eventually steals the sword of a would-be captor, killing all of the brigands and saving Yae. The experience leaves Azumi understanding that she must obey her training, and complete her mission. She sets off to find her master and comrades, and tells Yae that she will meet her later, in Tangou.
Meanwhile, the master, Nagara and Ukiha attempt to strike another target. The plan is foiled when it is revealed that the enemy has sprung a trap, reinforcing his samurai with common mercenaries. The master is captured and placed on a cross in anticipation of Azumi’s arrival. She finds Kato’s compound and starts her attack by turning some cannon on the area. She then proceeds through the compound, wreaking havoc enough to attract and impress Bijomaru, who decides to warm up by attacking the common mercenaries while Kanbei and Kato escape to sea. The mercenaries then attack Saru’s men, and Azumi’s task is made easier by the infighting. A final battle takes place between Azumi and Bijomaru, where he claims he is forced to defend for the first time. Upon Bijomaru’s defeat, Azumi releases her dying master from the cross and he uses his last breath to tell her to abandon their mission and go live her life.
Later, Kanbei and Kato are on their boat, congratulating each other about overcoming the assassin threat and plotting their next move against Tokugawa Ieyasu. Azumi appears as if from nowhere, and finishes the warlord in one blow, diving into the sea immediately afterwards. Kanbei is stricken with disbelief and frustration and lashes out at his men. Azumi then returns to the scene of her epic battle with Bijomaru to find that Nagara had indeed survived and has just made his way out from the rubble he was buried under during the battle. The two resolve that, having killed Asano and Kato, they will complete their mission, and pursue Sanada.
Azumi opened nationwide in Japan on May 10, 2003 opening at #4 grossing $1,304,864 playing at 253 screens. In total the film grossed $6,668,719 in Japan. In the United States, the film opened in limited release grossing $2,848 in one theater, It was distributed by its writer and co-producer’s Mataichiro Yamamoto’s company, Urban Vision, on their label AsiaVision, with a DVD home release 1, 2006. In total the film grossed $41,803 in North America. It gained its first international exposure when it was aired on the WOWOW satellite television network.
The film received mixed reviews from critics. The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 43% of critics gave Azumi positive reviews, based on 28 reviews, with the consensus that “this adaptation of the popular manga series offers exquisitely choreographed violence—and little else.” Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 49 out of 100, based on 14 reviews.
Awards:
In the sequel, directed by Shusuke Kaneko and set immediately after the final events of the first film, Azumi and her remaining partner Nagara are stalked by the men of a warlord she recently assassinated. Upon escaping, they are forced to join forces with a local resistance and a group of bandits in order to kill the last remaining warlord and bring lasting peace to Japan. To make things even more complicated for Azumi, she must also confront her emotions in regards to a fighter who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nachi.

Race 2

Race 2 is a Bollywood action thriller film directed by Abbas Burmawalla, Mustan Burmawalla and produced under the Tips Music Films banner. It is the sequel to the 2008 film, Race and the second installment of Race film series. It stars an ensemble cast that includes Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan reprising their roles as Robert D’Costa and Ranvir Singh respectively, while Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel are new additions to the cast. Bipasha Basu reprised her role of Sonia Martin in a special appearance.
Made on a budget of ₹600 million (US$8.9 million), Race 2 was released on 25 January 2013 and opened to mixed reviews from critics and highly positive response at the box office, earning ₹1.62 billion (US$24 million) worldwide. The film was the first one to enter the domestic and worldwide; Bollywood’s 100 Crore Club in 2013. According to Box Office India, it was a Hit worldwide.

Race 2 begins with a sniper shooting out the fuel tank of a Lamborghini, causing it to burst into flames. Some time afterwards, a robbery takes place and European printing plates are stolen. Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan) watches this news on TV and smiles. Ranvir goes to a casino owner, Vikram Thapar (Rajesh Khattar), claiming to have been behind the Euro printing plates robbery.
Ranvir offers Thapar €1.5 billion of counterfeit currency in exchange for €500 million real banknotes. Thapar agrees, and borrows the €500 million from ex-street fighter and billionaire gangster Armaan Malik (John Abraham), and makes the trade with Ranvir. It is then revealed that Ranvir never stole the printing plates, and was conning Thapar to get revenge for a previous matter. Now, unable to return Armaan’s money, Thapar is forced to give Armaan control of five casinos that he owns in Istanbul, Turkey.
The con is revealed to be a plan that Ranvir made a week earlier with Armaan

, who he was introduced to by his friend Robert “RD” D’Costa (Anil Kapoor) and his dimwitted assistant Cherry (Ameesha Patel). Ranvir essentially gives Armaan ownership of Thapar’s five casinos in exchange for a 10% commission, a fraction of the true value of the casinos. Ranvir and Armaan become friends and business partners, while Ranvir begins a romance with Armaan’s half sister and 50% shareholder Alina (Deepika Padukone).
At a party hosted by Armaan and Alina, Ranveer meets Armaan’s girlfriend Omisha (Jacqueline Fernandez) and sees a picture of his deceased wife Sonia (Bipasha Basu) in her wallet. He begins to charm her in order to gain her confidence. Meanwhile, he brings a lucrative deal to Armaan that will make them both billions. However, Ranvir later reveal to RD that Armaan and Thapar were responsible for the death of Sonia, and his real plan is to bankrupt Armaan. Ranvir then establishes contact with Omisha, who tells him that she is Sonia’s sister Tanya, and has been dating Armaan to get close enough to kill him. However, Omisha is revealed to not be Tanya after all, and actually be working with Armaan, who already knew that Ranvir was Sonia’s husband.
Ranvir tells RD and Cherry that his plan is to steal the Shroud of Turin. He will steal the Shroud himself, but will tell Armaan that someone else will do it, and sell it to him for €15 billion, which is a fraction of the Shroud’s true value. Ranvir then plans to steal both the Shroud and Armaan’s €15 billion. However, RD, who is deathly afraid of Armaan, betrays Ranvir and tells Armaan the whole plan.
After Ranvir drinks his glass clean, Armaan reveals that Alina mixed poison in Ranvir’s glass. As Ranvir slowly dies, Armaan reveals that thanks to RD he knew Ranvir’s plan the whole time and he was controlling the race the entire time. Alina reveals that she was never on his side because of her blood relationship with Armaan. Omisha drives back with the money and reveals to Ranvir that she was also on Armaan’s side and she is not Sonia’s sister. After Ranvir dies, RD and Cherry leave after getting 10% of the money from Armaan. Alina leaves to get the private jet ready, while Armaan and Omisha retrieve the real Shroud from Ranvir’s luggage locker.
Armaan, Omisha, and Alina leave in their private jet. While in the jet, Armaan points his gun at Alina, revealing that all along he was planning to kill her and take her money. Suddenly, Ranvir crashes through the wall and reveals that Alina never poisoned his drink. Alina tells Armaan that she was on Ranvir’s side ever since Armaan planted the bomb in her car. Ranveer reveals that RD never betrayed him, and that he himself told RD to inform Armaan of the real plan. This was to make Armaan think he was ahead of Ranvir. Ranvir then reveals that he had seen a picture of Sonia’s sister before he even met Omisha.
Afterwards, Ranvir and Armaan have a fight in the plane being in midair. During the fight, Armaan tells Ranvir that he killed Sonia because she had betrayed him and fled with his money. As a result of the fight, a window of the plane was broken and subsequently an object damages the aircraft’s propellor. Armaan gets hold of a gun and shoots the pilot and all the parachutes except one and he along with Omisha escape with it. Ranvir and Alina were left out so that they would die as a result of plane-crash but they escape using Armaan’s car which opens chutes while in the air. The plane crashes on a mountain.
Armaan and Omisha goes to meet Godfather Anza and gives him the shroud, which on inspection turns out to be fake. Just then Ranvir calls Omisha and tells how after everyone left the ruins of Antalya, Alina came back to take Ranvir to the jet. Then, they reveal how Alina switched the real money with the fake money while Ranvir and Armaan were fighting in the jet. Hearing this Anza Takes everything from Armaan in return of his money, even Omisha switches sides when she sees Armaan as being penniless.
Ranvir and RD meet and Ranvir gives him his share. RD then says that he does not want to risk his life again and makes Ranvir promise to never meet him again. Ranvir shakes on the promise but then warns RD that promises are made to be broken. RD and Cherry then leave in one small aircraft, while Ranvir and Alina leave in another.
After the success of Race (2008), Ramesh Taurani registered Race 2 as a title and Abbas-Mustan said that they would go ahead with a sequel “if we get a script in place which is even better than the original.” The screenplay was written by Shiraz Ahmed who also wrote Race. Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor were the first to sign on in November 2009 and were reported to be the only returning cast members from the first film. In June 2010, John Abraham was signed on to play the antagonist and Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra were approached to co-star opposite Khan and Abraham respectively. However, Kapoor turned down the role as she didn’t want her pairing with Khan to get repetitive; Chopra opted out due to scheduling conflicts and was subsequently replaced by Padukone. It was also rumoured that Asin had been shortlisted to star alongside Khan. In December 2010, Sonakshi Sinha was cast as a replacement for Kapoor. Chitrangda Singh was approached for a role opposite Anil Kapoor in May 2011 but eventually dropped out for unspecified reasons. Ameesha Patel and Mallika Sherawat were considered for that same role, but it ultimately went to Patel.
“The expectations from Race 2 are humongous and we plan to make it bigger and better than the first part.”
The film’s shooting was set to begin on 5 October 2011 but was postponed to accommodate Deepika Padukone’s dates causing scheduling conflicts with Sonakshi Sinha. Sinha’s dates conflicted with her filming schedule for Dabangg 2 (2012), forcing her to drop out. In October 2011, Jacqueline Fernandez who had opted out of Krrish 3 and Raaz 3 was cast as a replacement for Sinha. Shortly afterwards, it was announced that Bipasha Basu would be reprising her role as Sonia in a cameo appearance and continuing to be Khan’s love interest. Despite rumours suggesting that Basu would be sharing screen space with ex-boyfriend John Abraham for the first time after their break-up, Abraham denied this. Reports have said that after this statement was said Abraham then told Saif that he didn’t want to work with Basu in the first place. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, the largest of Sunni clerics in India, urged PM Manmohan Singh to stop their publication and display of Race 2 posters that featured verses from the Quran.
The first Indian schedule began on 5 November 2011 in Mumbai for 15 days, wrapping up on 20 November. Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt was in talks to join the cast, but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. The second schedule commenced on 23 January 2012 in Mumbai. Padukone dropped out within six days because the film was always being rescheduled.
Race 2’s producer Ramesh Taurani released a statement to the media deeming Padukone’s behaviour as “unethical, unprofessional and unacceptable”. Also

, it was reported that Asin was offered the role to replace Padukone, although it has been rumoured that she declined the offer, thus avoiding any controversies regarding her and Kapoor. However, Padukone and Taurani agreed on a settlement after much negotiation and the filming continued as planned. Fernandez, Abraham and Padukone joined the cast in May at Istanbul for the third schedule. On 7 October 2012, shooting was completed. The Mardan Palace in Turkey was the setting for many scenes where it was shown as the home of Padukone and Abraham’s characters.
The soundtrack of Race 2 is composed by Pritam. It has four main tracks. The tracks “Lat Lag Gayee written by Mayur Puri,” “Be Intehaan written by Mayur Puri,” and “Party on My Mind” sung by KK , Shefali Alvares and Yo Yo Honey Singh, songs became extremely popular and were declared chartbusters.
The soundtrack received positive critical reception. IBN Live gave it 4/5 stars saying, “Race 2’s soundtrack is racy to the core. In a nutshell, the album is bound to be a hit. Let’s just hope the movie is as good as the soundtrack is!” Shresht Poddar, of Score magazine, gave the album 3/5 stars saying, “Personally, as a standalone album with no biases, it is enjoyable but it could have done with better lyrics. The tracks are foot-tapping and they would appeal to the masses. But if you compare it to Race, the album undoubtedly falls flat.”
Race 2 was released in 3200 screens in India; it is the third biggest release ever for a Hindi film after Ek Tha Tiger (3300 screens) and Dabangg 2 (3700 screens). Race 2 was released in more than 50 countries, including US, UK, Gulf, Australia, Pakistan as well as non-traditional markets like Maldives, East Timor, Myanmar, Morocco and Vietnam (with as many as seven screens). The film had a simultaneous release in Morocco in four to five screens, including theatres in Casablanca and Marrakech. Race 2 is subtitled in Arabic, Thai, Bahasa, Malay, Vietnamese, and Dutch.
Madhureeta Mukherjee of Times of India rated the film 3 out of 5, while commenting “Heists, hot-babes, roulette, raging cars, gizmos and gags – Director duo, Abbas-Mustan have thrown in everything with pompous grandeur, save for a riveting plot that shocks or stuns.” Rubina A Khan of The First Post gave it 3 out of 5 stars, adding, “Race 2 delivers what it promises – good looking ensemble cast, exotic locations, cars, bomb squads, revenge, lust and love, a couple of good music tracks and, most importantly, a plot which unravels at a thrilling pace.” Shivesh Kumar of IndiaWeekly awarded the movie 3 out of 5 stars.
Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and said “The writing isn’t watertight, the film lacks a hit score, the climax is far from effective and overall, Race 2 pales in comparison to Race.” Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN awarded it a score of 2.5 out of 5 while commenting “The film has no intellectual pretensions; its only ambition is to offer a good time. In that, it mostly succeeds.” Anupama Chopra of Hindustantimes gave 2 out of 5, reviewing, “Race 2 is essentially a big-budget cartoon in which coolness is all. The director duo Abbas-Mustan have no pretensions about what they are making – full-on masala with a dash of revenge, a slice of heist and characters who are either strutting their chiseled bodies in slow motion or betraying each other.” Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave it a score of 1.5 out of 5 and feels “This is a wreck of a movie strictly for action junkies who might be looking for a feverish two-and-a-half-hour ride that is far more giddy than heady.”
Race 2 had what Box Office India called a “solid opening” at multiplexes and single screens with occupancy of around 60%–70%. The film had a very good opening day, netting ₹143 million (US$2.1 million). It showed good growth in its second day, collecting approximately ₹185 million (US$2.7 million) nett and became the fourth biggest Saturday collections ever. Race 2 did well on its first weekend by collecting around ₹603 million (US$9.0 million) nett by collecting around ₹169.5 million (US$2.5 million) on Sunday.Race 2 dropped on Monday as it collected around ₹60 million (US$890,000) nett.
Despite dropping collections after the weekend, the film managed to do well and netted around ₹695 million (US$10 million) in its first week. Race 2 did pretty well on its second Friday collecting around ₹32.5 million (US$480,000) nett. The film had a decent second weekend and collected around ₹140 million (US$2.1 million) with first Sunday collections going to around 60 million nett plus. It collected around ₹835 million (US$12 million) nett in 10 days. It did well in its second week collecting around ₹205 million (US$3.0 million) nett. The two-week total was around ₹900 million (US$13 million) nett. It further added ₹35.0 million (US$520,000) in its third week. The movie as per Box Office India stands at ₹930 million (US$14 million)in India.[a]
Race 2 had a good opening in overseas with approximately ₹75.0 million (US$1.1 million) the opening weekend. Race 2 grossed approximately $5.5 million overseas in ten days. After grossing $6 million in 17 days overseas, the film was declared a hit by Box Office India. Race 2 recorded similar figures in overseas markets like its prequel. Moreover, it recorded the highest ever collection in Pakistan for any Bollywood film with an amount of $775,000 beating Don 2 which netted $675,000. Its final business in the overseas market is around $6.5 million.
After making two successful films, makers are planning the third Installment of this series. Saif Ali Khan will repeat his character from the prequels. Shah Rukh Khan was offered to play a negative role in Race 3 but the actor refused, because he is not in a mood to play a baddie again.

Ecofascism

Ecofascism is the combination of fascist politics with support for ecological concerns.

Environmental historian Michael E. Zimmerman defines “ecofascism” as “a totalitarian government that requires individuals to sacrifice their interests to the well-being and glory of the “land”, understood as the splendid web of life, or the organic whole of nature, including peoples and their states”. Zimmerman argues that while no ecofascist government has so far existed, “important aspects of it can be found in German National Socialism, one of whose central slogans was “Blood and Soil”.
According to environmentalist David Orton, the term is pejorative in nature and has “social ecology roots, against the deep ecology movement and its supporters plus, more generally, the environmental movement. Thus, ‘ecofascist’ and ‘ecofascism’, are used not to enlighten but to smear.”
Accusations of ecofascism are common but usually strenuously denied

.[citation needed] Such accusations have come from both those on the political left who see it as an assault on human rights, as in social ecologist Murray Bookchin’s use of the term, and from those on the political right, as in Rush Limbaugh and other conservative and Wise Use Movement commentators. In the latter case, it is sometimes a hyperbolic use of the term that is applied to all environmental activists, including more mainstream groups such as Greenpeace and the Sierra Club.
In the former case, Bookchin criticizes the political position of deep ecologists such as David Foreman:
“There are barely disguised racists, survivalists, macho Daniel Boones, and outright social reactionaries who use the word ecology to express their views, just as there are deeply concerned naturalists, communitarians, social radicals, and feminists who use the word ecology to express theirs…. It was out of this former kind of crude eco-brutalism that Hitler, in the name of ‘population control,’ with a racial orientation, fashioned theories of blood and soil that led to the transport of millions of people to murder camps like Auschwitz. The same eco-brutalism now reappears a half-century later among self-professed deep ecologists who believe that Third World peoples should be permitted to starve to death and that desperate Indian immigrants from Latin America should be excluded by the border cops from the United States lest they burden ‘our’ ecological resources.”
Such observations among the left are not exclusive to Bookchin. In his review of Anna Bramwell’s biography of Richard Walther Darré, J. Sakai observes the fascist ideological undertones of natural purity. Prior to the Russian Revolution, the Tsarist intelligentsia was divided on the one hand between liberal “utilitarian naturalists,” who were “taken with the idea of creating a paradise on earth through scientific mastery of nature” and influenced by nihilism as well Russian zoologists such as Anatoli Petrovich Bogdanov, and “cultural-aesthetic” conservationists such as Ivan Parfenevich Borodin, who were influenced in turn by German Romantic and idealist concepts such as ‘Landschaftspflege’ and ‘Naturdenkmal’

The influential European Nouvelle Droite movement, developed by Alain de Benoist and other individuals involved with the GRECE think tank, have also combined green politics with right-wing ideas, such as European ethnonationalism.
Prior to attaining political power, several Nazi ideologues, such as Heinrich Himmler, Alfred Rosenberg, and Walther Darré linked ideas of Agrarianism and nature conservation with anti-semitic, racist and militaristic ideas. Using the doctrine of “Blood and Soil”, Nazi thinkers argued that the German people had a special bond with the natural world, which had to be protected both from industrial pollution and “inferior” ethnic groups. These ideas remained in Nazism, despite its post-1936 emphasis on mechanical and military mobilisation.
Timothy Snyder’s Black Earth argues that Hitler’s anti-Semitism viewed Jews as an “un-natural” plague that kept mankind from returning to its “natural” Darwinian state of fight among races for resources.
Although Finnish activist Pentti Linkola does not endorse fascism per se, he has expressed admiration for the German National Socialist regime for its efficiency in killing large numbers of human beings in a short period of time, describing the massacres of the Holocaust and Stalin’s Great Purge as “massive thinning operations.” He advocates a strong, centralised ecological dictatorship, with harsh population control measures and brutal punishment of those he considers to be environmental abusers. Linkola has attracted considerable controversy both in his home country and worldwide.[citation needed]
In the United Kingdom, left-leaning watchdog groups[example needed] and magazines such as Red Pepper have accused the Third Way political tendency of ecofascism, although most academics describe the Third Way tendency as a position akin to centrism that tries to reconcile right-wing and left-wing politics by advocating a varying synthesis of right-wing economic and left-wing social policies Sandro Outlet. From the 1930s onward, there has been a history of environmentalist views being held by the far-right in the UK, notably by Henry Williamson, Rolf Gardiner, Lord Lymington, and Jorian Jenks.
The term ecofascist has also been used by Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center to describe James Jay Lee, the ecoterrorist who took several hostages at the headquarters of Discovery Communications on September 1, 2010. Potok also connects ecofascism with nativists, who appeal to environmentalists by arguing that immigration causes environmental degradation.
The Golden Dawn, a far-right political party in Greece that is described as neo-Nazi, has a branch known as the Green Wing. This organization takes part in volunteer activities such as firefighting, reforestation, and private investigation of animal abuse.
